PSYCHOMETRIST
My Education:
Kara completed her undergraduate studies at the University of British Columbia, earning a Bachelor of Kinesiology. She then went on to complete a Bachelor of Education at UBC, further deepening her passion for learning. Driven by a strong desire to learn more about how mental health impacts development and learning Kara pursued a Master’s degree in Inclusive and Specialized Education at Flinders University. Her academic journey reflects a deep commitment to understanding and empowering all types of diverse learners with a particular interest in Autism and ADHD.
My Experience:
With over 20 years of experience Kara brings a deep understanding of human development, learning, and assessment practices to her role as a psychometrist. Throughout her career, she has served in wide range of roles ranging from classroom teacher, to learning mentor, to instructional support specialist, to being a team member on an ASD and ADHD private practice community clinic team.
My Why:
During my 20+ year career in eduction my experiences working with the neurodivergent community have strengthened my belief in the importance of recognizing and supporting diverse learners and community members. While it may sound cliché it is true that for humanity “Our strength comes from our diversity”. In my work with The Neuro-Divergent Team I find it fulfilling to be a part of a process that strives to capture people’s individual profiles of strength and support needs and use this information as a tool to guide our clients towards meaningful steps forward in self-understanding and finding useful supports and resources.
Check out the Q&A below to get to know me better:
When I’m not working, I’m hanging out with my three amazing kids and my two furry sidekicks—Snuggle Bunny, my hilariously oversized rabbit, and Obi, my sweet and slightly dramatic dog. They all keep life loud, fun, and full of personality—and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Outside of work, I love being active in nature—whether it’s hiking, biking, or just enjoying the outdoors with my family. I also love rock climbing with my kids.
I recharge by taking peaceful walks in nature, practicing guided meditation, and fitting in some sister time whenever I can.
I’ve read the entire Harry Potter series four times—once on my own, and then once more with each of my three kids, making it a magical tradition in our family.
My ideal vacation involves exploring new places, diving into local culture, and eating my way through every market and café. I’m definitely not the “lie on a beach all day” type—unless there are snacks and a local adventure nearby!
